At long last we have reached my ten favorite Halloween specials of the season….
10. Freaks and Geeks “Tricks and Treats”
The Freaks Halloween special takes a serious hit due to budget restraints prohibiting the episode from being filmed at night. Halloween at 3PM is just awkward. However the typical Freaks merits are on display (Seth Rogen laughing, James Franco grinning, Jason Segal being super gangly), winning Judd Apatow’s high school dramedy the 10 spot on this year’s countdown.

Donald Glover, co-star of NBC’s cult hit Community, raps as his musical alter-ego Childish Gambino: “I’m rap’s stepfather, yeah, you hate me but you will respect.” The same can be said for a good TV exec.
For instance, when FX president John Landgraf made the call to cancel their ratings challenged, critically acclaimed P.I. dramedy Terriers in December 2010, he held a press conference expressing how difficult a decision it was for him, how much he loved the show but how hard it would be for FX—a fledgling network when it comes to original programming—to foot the bill for a show bringing in such low numbers. It was completely unnecessary, but it was a classy move, and the small but loyal Terriers fan base might have hated him for it but, like a good stepfather, they ultimately had to respect his call.

News broke yesterday that the ninth season of “The Office” will be its last. This article features some intriguing quotes from creator Greg Daniels, who insists the show could have extended to a 10th season, but with the possibility of losing more main cast members (Steve Carell and Mindy Kaling have already left, and several big contracts including John Krasinski and Rainn Wilson).
While the last few seasons of “The Office” have declined (well before Carell left) it’s still funnier the most shows on TV, and with the creative ambition Daniels and crew feel for this final season (including getting to the bottom of whose making the damn documentary) and the sincere intent to wrap up all characters and story arcs, the ninth season of “The Office” could prove to be some must-see TV.
Now if only “Community” gets moved back to Thursday….

You’ve seen her somewhere before, outside the café smoking like, Old Golds or some hand-rolled shit. Maybe she’s one of the chicks who kills herself crawling into jeans Thursday nights, or she might be the type to call her dad every morning and ask the scores of sports she don’t care about—it’s hard to say with those Back to Black Aviators swallowing her face.
Give her a second. Read the rest of this entry »
