Top 10 Halloween Specials

In movies, TV, writing on 10/23/2012 at 18:25

At long last we have reached my ten favorite Halloween specials of the season….

10. Freaks and Geeks “Tricks and Treats”

The Freaks Halloween special takes a serious hit due to budget restraints prohibiting the episode from being filmed at night. Halloween at 3PM is just awkward. However the typical Freaks merits are on display (Seth Rogen laughing, James Franco grinning, Jason Segal being super gangly), winning Judd Apatow’s high school dramedy the 10 spot on this year’s countdown.

10 Celebrities Who Starred In A Tale From The Midnight Society

In TV, writing on 10/08/2012 at 12:06

The beloved format of Are You Afraid of the Dark? presented audiences with a new cast of characters every week. With those kinds of odds, a few of them were bound to go on to do big things.

Tatyana Ali “The Tale of the Quicksilver”

Top 10 Tuesday: Halloween Specials

In movies, TV, writing on 10/03/2012 at 16:30

For the next three weeks I will be counting down 30 of my favorite Halloween specials. These include both movies and Halloween episodes of my favorite shows. Without further adieu….

30. Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman
While (obviously) on the more childish side of Halloween entertainment, “Wolfman” recalls the best part of Halloween—that is, being a child!

On holidays, the whole world seems to transform when you are young. My obsession with Halloween no doubt stems from those late afternoons, mom painstakingly finishing up my vampire makeup (a ghostly foundation, some dainty lips and a grotesque, infected gash), then walking out into the evening with your new body. Holding my dad’s hand, walking down unfamiliar streets well past 8 at night—there is nothing like it!

I hope he kills them

This is the nostalgia I get from “Wolfman,” as we get plenty of shots of spooky suburbs, mysterious neighbors, and big middle American porches stuffed to the brim with pumpkins. A low key start for your Halloween viewing.

RECORDS REVIEW: 8 Great Children’s Cartoons

In TV, Uncategorized on 04/11/2012 at 19:42

Following up yesterday’s list of ‘toons for adults, here are ten shows you likely watched as a kid.
As a reminder, there are still two categories to go! I might not consider your favorite cartoon as a kid a kid’s cartoon, per se, so chill.

8. The Magic School Bus

Magic School Bus

Was learning ever this fun again?! Seriously, if my Math for the Modern World professor really wanted me to memorize the formula for a successful 401K plan, he should’ve had Valeria Frizzle drive TMSB through Wall Street for 23 minutes. Lesson learned.

Girl From Class

In fiction, girls on 12/01/2011 at 03:44

You’ve seen her somewhere before, outside the café smoking like, Old Golds or some hand-rolled shit. Maybe she’s one of the chicks who kills herself crawling into jeans Thursday nights, or she might be the type to call her dad every morning and ask the scores of sports she don’t care about—it’s hard to say with those Back to Black Aviators swallowing her face.
Give her a second. Read the rest of this entry »
